SENTENCE FLUENCY

Writing is Music.

Nursery rhymes adorn children’s books. Simple structures, pleasant cadence, memorable words and phrases. Baroque constructions litter academic works. Repetition, variations, ideas that run pages and pages. There are quotable ear-worms, pop romances, classics of astounding depth and inspiration. Listen a little, lend writing your ears. It gives words quite the sense of occasion.

Writing is more than just a way for us to just state our ideas, it’s also about making our ideas memorable. When we construct fluent sentences, our words become more than just sheet music. They come to life.

At PFL, we’re committed to teaching each of our students how to listen to and replicate the natural music in language. We help them learn how to craft well-built sentences, understand the nuances of varied lengths and grasp how to capture a smooth rhythm and flow while writing. In doing so, we train our pupils to become composers; their written work is as stimulating aesthetically as it is intellectually.
