Gifted Children

Gifted children have an intellectual ability significantly higher than their peers; a characteristic that continues on into adulthood. Some students may exhibit what some cognitive psychologists term “savantism”, where their exceptional ability in one area comes at the expense of weaknesses in all other areas. Our programme for gifted children is run by gifted adults – their memories of childhood help them empathise with the needs of their students.

As far as we’re concerned, gifted children are just those who have found what matters to them early. We liaise closely with parents and our educational psychology team to assemble a programme that will strengthen our students’ innate skills while still encouraging them to broaden their horizons by showing them how their skills are transferable.

Gifted children can feel alienated from their classmates and society. They may even – for a while – feel alienated from their parents. This can be very difficult for them. As mentors, role models, and empathetic adults, we work with our clients to create strategies to help gifted children deal with the emotional obstacles they may face.

A lot of our clients come to us because they would like us to help their child take their exams early, or because their child’s school is not able to provide adequate attention and sufficiently challenging material to engage the child. It’s often very difficult to convince a school to accelerate, which is where out tutors come in. We provide a unique and intellectually challenging environment to help talented children develop both academically and socially in a manner commensurate with their incredible ability.

Joey Alexander, 12, recently released his debut album.
