Literature is a Labyrinth
If you’re an IB or IGCSE student caught in a muddle of metaphors, motifs and metonyms take comfort! Much like any maze, literature can be solved by careful attention to detail, some creative thinking and a bit of planning ahead. If you keep your left hand on the wall of a maze the entire time you’re in there and follow the path it leads you down, you may end up taking a much longer route, but you will eventually get out. Here at PFL, we’d like to be your hedgerow. If you find yourself confounded by the complexities of language, we’ll always be around to reorient you. Remember that once you’ve got the hang of what you’re doing and know where you’re going, mazes can be brilliant fun!
With this in mind, we created a guide to all the literary terms a student would need throughout their education; starting with the basic terms every 11+ student is expected to know and finishing with technical terms that most university graduates would struggle to identify.
